Curb-side residential service is provided Monday through Friday for in-town residents. Pickup is once a week. A monthly base fee is charged on the utility bill, plus a per bag charge. Required orange bags are $1 for each 30-gallon bag or 50 cents per each 13-gallon bag and may be purchased at CMU, Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Westlake Ace Hardware.
Recycling
The City of Chillicothe implemented a free curbside recycling program in 1992, through which recyclable materials are collected weekly on regular trash pickup days. Chillicothe Municipal Utilities collects tin, aluminum, No. 1 and No. 2 plastic and paper-related materials. Non-recyclable materials must be put into orange trash bags that may be purchased at several places in town. Hazardous Waste
Chillicothe Municipal Utilities accepts household hazardous waste from city residents in the spring and fall only on designated days at 215 Brunswick.
Open Burning
Open burning of natural refuse (trees, leaves, grass clippings, etc.), is permitted on private property year round. Materials must be no larger than 2 inches in diameter. If burning in a barrel, barrels must be at least 15 feet away from any building. Burning in the open must be at least 50 feet from any structure. A water source must be available. Landscape Waste
Chillicothe Transfer Station at 201 Mitchell Road accepts yard waste (grass and leaves) with no fee assessed for Chillicothe residents. There is a $5 fee per pickup truckload of brush. The transfer station is open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Yard waste stickers may be purchased for .75 cents at Chillicothe Municipal Utilities for curbside collection of yard waste. 660-646-1664
Transfer Station / Landfill
Chillicothe Transfer Station is open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and accepts anything that is accepted at a landfill. The station charges by the ton and there is a minimum fee. The transfer station is located at 201 Mitchell Road. Contact 660-707-8000. CMU also has a spring cleanup for city residents to bring any items (appliances at no charge and tires for a fee) to the Chillicothe Transfer Station. Contact CMU for dates. 660-646-1664

Postal Delivery
City, rural, and post office box mail delivery are available in Chillicothe Monday through Saturday, except on holidays. Residents moving to Chillicothe or changing addresses within town should contact the Chillicothe Post Office, 401 S. Washington St. 660-646-1133. www.usps.com
The business window is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The lobby area provides access to P.O. boxes, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Postal service for mailing needs also available at contract station at Hy-Vee. 7 collection boxes throughout town with the last pickup of the day at 2:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday (except holidays).
The post office is a sectional center facility, processing mail for all 646 zip codes. Changing addresses and making hold mail requests can be done online.
